New Tax on Solar System In Pakistan

The Ministry of Energy has conveyed that the CPPA has recommended imposing a tax of 2,000 rupees per kilowatt on those installing solar systems. It is possible that the government will impose a tax of 2,000 rupees per kilowatt on those installing a 12-kilowatt solar system.

Consequently, households or commercial entities with a 12-kilowatt solar system may face a monthly tax of 24,000 rupees. The summary, seeking approval for this proposal, has been forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office by the Power Division.

Additionally, the Ministry of Energy has stated that a reconsideration of solar panel prices is also under discussion. If approved, an application will be submitted to NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) to reduce electricity rates obtained from solar panels. This move reflects a significant shift towards renewable energy adoption in the country, but also raises questions about the financial implications for individuals and businesses investing in solar power.
